Ramadan 2027: Expected Start Date, the Last Ten Nights and Eid al-Fitr (1448 AH)

Updated October 2026 · 6 min read

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday, 8 February 2027. That is the date in Saudi Arabia's Umm al-Qura calendar and in the UAE Astronomy Centre's forecast. The first taraweeh would be on the night of Sunday 7 February, the last ten nights would start on the evening of Saturday 27 February, and Eid al-Fitr is expected on Tuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027. Every one of these dates waits on the crescent moon, so your country may be a day later.

Ramadan 2027 key dates

These are the expected dates if Ramadan begins on Monday 8 February. An Islamic day begins at sunset, so "the 21st night" starts after Maghrib on the 20th day of fasting.

The rest of the Hijri year is in our Islamic Calendar 2026 guide, which runs through Dhul-Hijjah 1448.

Why your country might start on 9 February

Saudi Arabia follows the Umm al-Qura calendar for its civil dates and announces Ramadan after its own sighting, and the UAE forecast lands on the same Monday. Many other countries, and many mosques in the UK, Europe and North America, wait for a crescent to be seen locally or follow a national committee. When the moon is young and hard to see on the 29th of Sha'ban, those communities complete Sha'ban at 30 days and begin fasting a day later.

So the realistic window for 1 Ramadan 1448 is Monday 8 or Tuesday 9 February 2027. If it starts on the 9th where you live, move every date on this page one day later. Your local mosque's announcement is the one to follow.

Laylat al-Qadr 2027 and the last ten nights

The Night of Decree is "better than a thousand months" (Qur'an 97:3). The Prophet ﷺ said, "Search for the Night of Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadan" (Bukhari 2017). In 2027 the odd nights are expected to begin after Maghrib on these evenings:

NightBegins after Maghrib on
21st nightSaturday 27 February 2027
23rd nightMonday 1 March 2027
25th nightWednesday 3 March 2027
27th nightFriday 5 March 2027
29th nightSunday 7 March 2027

When the last ten began, the Prophet ﷺ "used to pray all the night, and used to keep his family awake for the prayers" (Bukhari 2024). The dua he taught 'Aishah for this night is "O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning, [Generous,] You love pardon, so pardon me" (Allāhumma innaka ʿafuwwun [karīmun] tuḥibbul-ʿafwa faʿfu ʿannī) (Tirmidhi 3513, graded sahih by al-Albani; the bracketed word appears only in some editions). Our Tahajjud guide covers when the last third of the night falls, which is the part most people aim for.

Fasting hours in Ramadan 2027

Ramadan 2027 falls in February and March, so fasts are short in Europe and North America and longer south of the equator. These are the approximate hours from Fajr to Maghrib on the first and last expected fast:

How to prepare in Sha'ban

'Aishah said she "did not see him fasting in any month more than in the month of Sha'ban" (Bukhari 1969). The month before Ramadan is the warm-up, and four weeks is enough to arrive ready:

  1. Make up last year's missed fasts. Count them now and spread them across January. Our fasting tracker guide covers logging make-up fasts.
  2. Get your five prayers steady first. Ramadan is easier when the prayers are already a habit. Start with how to be consistent in salah, or how to start praying again if it has been a while.
  3. Plan the nights, not only the days. Decide now where you will pray taraweeh and how you will protect the last ten nights from work and screens.
  4. Put Ramadan on your lock screen. You unlock your phone dozens of times a day. Our free Ramadan 2027 wallpapers turn each unlock into a reminder.
  5. Set a small daily dhikr. A short morning and evening adhkar routine started in Sha'ban carries straight into the month.
